Settled and Single to Married and Moving

Rewind three years ago. Can you remember what was going on during the month of November in 2010?  Well I can. That month was life changing for me. I didn't realize it at the time, but now I can look back and say that it was.

I was living in Casper, WY. I was born and raised in WY and never thought I would stray too far from the state. I was a single, divorced mom with an eight year old son. I had a great job. I was an elementary teacher. I was nice and comfortable at my school. I had started out student teaching back in 2006 and had been there ever since. I was enjoying the familiarity of a school community and staff members that I had gotten to know and grow with.

I had reached a point in my life where I was content. I did the dating thing and being divorced, I was very picky and was not about to settle for anyone, especially having a child in the mix. I wasn't looking to date anyone and really had know desire to start dating anyone. Getting to the point, as Thanksgiving rolled around I was home alone for my favorite holiday, so my friend invited me to her sister's house where her husband had family in from Colorado and South Dakota. While there I had met this sweet man who happened to be the grandfather (or matchmaker as we call him now). I must have charmed him because next thing I knew his "single" grandson was being introduced to me later that day. I learned that he was an Air Force Pilot who was stationed in Rapid City, SD. Knowing this, never did it occur to me that I could begin a relationship with this man, especially knowing he did not live in the same town as me. Boy was I wrong! Long story short, a relationship did occur, as well as the beginning of life changing experiences for me! Soon after we began traveling together, he bought an airplane, moved us to Texas, and we got hitched!

  2. I love this story! Thank you so much for sharing it Iris! It reminds me a lot of my own story; single and finally content with being single in 2010 and then with a random string of events, my (now) fiancé pops into my life! I say things like that happen for a reason and the perfect timing is the result of fate. Your story is very romantic and a true "happily ever after!"
